Washington, May 21 (RHC)-- As a result of the coordination efforts that have taken place over the past two weeks between U.S. and Cuban authorities, Cuban citizens stranded in the United States in the midst of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus pandemic will be able to return to the island on Friday on two charter flights.  

The Cuban embassy in Washington has announced that on May 22nd, World Atlantic Airlines will provide two aircraft for these trips from Miami, Florida, to Havana.  These flights will depart at 10:00 and 14:30 local time, according to Prensa Latina news agency.

The flights will allow the return to Cuba "of hundreds of our compatriots, with the condition of Residents in our national territory, who have been requesting help and were registered by our Consulate."

"The Cuban Embassy will continue in contact with its nationals, who are still stranded for various reasons in U.S. territory, for possible return flights that can be coordinated in the future," he added.

The diplomatic mission said that the airlines will ensure compliance with health measures to minimize the risk of infection of the coronavirus, calling for maintaining social distancing and the use of the facial mask.

Upon arrival in Cuba, all passengers will be transferred to isolation centers, where they must remain for 14 days, according to the provisions adopted by the authorities of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.
