Havana, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuba today reports 545 patients admitted to hospitals with Covid-19, of them 524 with stable clinical evolution, 19 in serious condition and two critical.

'These figures are high for what we had achieved in our country,' said Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health.

In the usual press conference to update these data, the specialist reported that 35 new patients were diagnosed with the disease in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of confirmed cases in this country to 3,717.

During the last day there was no regret for any death from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, for which the total death toll remains at 91.

Of the newly diagnosed patients, 20 are women and 15 men, all Cubans, 32 are contacts of a previously diagnosed case, one has a source of infection abroad and the source of infection is being investigated in two, Duran explained.

The expert added that 15 were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, demonstrating the complexity of the disease.

'More than 50 percent of those diagnosed this day are young (...) three of them under 20 years old,' said the specialist from the Ministry of Public Health.

The day before, 4,261 diagnostic tests were studied throughout the national territory to detect the presence of the virus, which brings to 365,353 the total number of samples taken since the first cases was known in this country, on March 11.

The health authorities reiterate that the risk is still extremely high, which is why they insist on compliance with the control and protection measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, preventive treatment has been developed in this country by isolating the contacts of confirmed cases and suspected people.

More than 20 products from the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry are used at all levels of care, from therapies in the community and in surveillance centers for suspicious people, to the treatment of confirmed patients or those who transition to serious stages or critical.
