China will restore mural paintings of its largest Taoist temple

Beijing, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) China finalizes the details to restore since 2020 the wall paintings of Yongle Palace, its largest Taoist temple and built in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) in the northern province of Shanxi.

The plans contemplate the deep cleaning of the works, repair of the damages and retouch the original colors, said local experts in charge of the works.

They are part of a three-year project to completely rehabilitate the place and turn it into a top-level tourist attraction.

As a previous step, a team of specialists completed a digital collection of the installation, reviewed the ambient temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide levels.

The murals of the Yongle temple cover 1,500 square meters and among them the Chaoyuan tu, known as the Oriental Gallery and measuring 97 meters long and 4.4 meters high.

That painting shows 290 Taoist figures.
