Master Bobby Carcassés, National Music Award 2012, will officially open the 34th International Jazz Festival Plaza 2019, which will be held next January 14-20, with the concerts by Afrojazz and Timba Funk next Wednesday in the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theatre of Cuba.

Carcassés informed the press at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba that he will share the stage with important exponents of the genre such as Roger Glenn, Yosvany Terry and Dick Griffin (Cuba-United States), and that Puerto Ricans Marc Quiñones and Bobby Allende will also attend the stage along with 8 y Más, as well as Tony Succar and his Unity Project.

At the conference, the director of the National Center for Popular Music and president of Jazz Plaza, Victor Rodriguez Garcia, reported that this edition shows a significant increase in the participation of foreign musicians of the highest level, such as Arturo O'Farril (United States), Joss Stone (United Kingdom) and Patricia Kraus (Spain).

Rodríguez García pointed out that as a novelty in this 34th edition of the festival, the renowned Cuban plastic artist Alberto Lescay was asked to create the poster for the presentation of the event, an initiative that will be carried out in future editions by other prestigious exponents of visual art in the country.

He explained that this time the event will be closely related to other genres of Cuban popular music, with the presentation of jazz players in hand to hand with groups such as Septeto Santiaguero, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas and others.

It was also informed that the event will include among its venues Mella and America theaters, the Avellaneda and Covarrubias halls of the National Theater and the Tito Junco hall of the Bertolt Brecht Cultural Center, the Pergola and the Central Stage of the Cuba Pavilion, Coppelia Gardens and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

The festival will be extended for the third time to Santiago de Cuba, where it will also have a comprehensive program of concerts in important locations such as the Iris Jazz Club, Plaza de Marte, Hotel Meliá Santiago, Fundación Caguayo and Plaza Dolores.

Tributes will be paid to Bobby Carcassés, Cuban showman and main manager of Jazz Plaza in the 80s, to the centenaries Benny Moré and El Niño Rivera, to the emblematic orchestras Aragón and Van Van, to the Cuban Music Institute and to the four record companies of the country, radio program La esquina del jazz and others.
