Positive results for Cuba at London tourism fair
The World Travel Market (WTM), one of the leading tourism fairs in the world, concludes on Wednesday in London with positive results for Cuban tour operators and hotel chains.
We are pleased with the fair, Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero told Prensa Latina. Marrero led the Cuban delegation to the event taking place in London for three days, with the participation of 5,000 exhibitors from 182 countries.
According to the minister, Cuba's attendance at this edition of the WTM was preceded by news of Thomas Cook and The Holiday Place filing for bankruptcy, the two main British tour operators to Cuba.
We received around 75,000 travelers through Thomas Cook every year, while The Holiday Place sent another 20,000, the official explained, after noting that this situation has caused a vacuum in the British market, with a mass of tourists who want to go to Cuba, but are left with fewer options to do so.
Marrero, who traveled accompanied by the presidents of hotel chains and national and foreign travel agencies operating in Cuba, noted the interest of other British companies interested in filling the void left by Thomas Cook and The Holiday Place.
