Havana, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday noted the significance of the US people's worth for the world to prevent a war, and recalled the statements by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

'#Fidel said '[...] many peoples in the world will harbor their best hopes in the US people. They are the only ones who can stop and put the fans of power, arbitrariness and war in a straitjacket [...]', Diaz-Canel wrote on Twitter.

The Cuban president was referring to Fidel's speech at a political-cultural rally in 2002 in eastern Santiago de Cuba province, where he strongly rejected accusations by then US President George W. Bush on Cuba's alleged promotion of terrorism.

On that occasion, Fidel Castro also noted the courage and integrity of the Cuban people in the defense of their sovereignty against such a powerful adversary as the United States.

'Perhaps never in any country there was such a colossal, brave and solid political movement, as certainly such a small country has never had the integrity and courage to oppose such a powerful adversary,' Fidel noted.
