Cuba will present the project Maritime-Port Strategy for the Caribbean at the 1st ACS Conference of Cooperation, to be held from March 8th to 11th, said sources today here.

Pedro Suarez, official from the Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans), told the Cuban television that this will be the master plan for the maritime-port development that will handle the challenges of the region, such as the recent enhancement of the Panama canal, which will increase traffic, and the future establishment of the Nicaragua canal.

According to Suarez, Mitrans specialist for Latin America, amid the goals of the project is providing exporters and importers of the region and the world, as well as operators of cruisers and ferries, with the information on current transportation and routes.

The project, which also includes the update of port logistics in the Caribbean, has as main objective to boost cooperation among country members of ACS, Association of Caribbean States.

Suarez said that the movement in Caribbean from an island to another is complex, despite the short distance, hence a regional airline might be created to launch direct flights amid countries in the region.

The event, to be held in Havana, seeks to assess the programs of cooperation implemented by ACS, but mainly to manage resources for those ongoing and others related to the subject.
