Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez assured today, in response to the application of new US sanctions against Cuba, that they will continue to fail in their attempt to subdue the island to their designs.

In a post on his X account, the senior official stated that the US government, instead of listening to its citizens, announces new blockade measures against the island "in its obstinate determination to suffocate the economy and cause the greatest possible harm to our people."

"They will continue to fail in their attempt to subdue us to their designs and will keep clashing with our effective defense of independence and sovereignty," Rodríguez emphasized.

As has become customary every Thursday, the Treasury Department of the northern nation announced new unilateral coercive measures to further tighten the nearly 70-year siege against Cuba, in its effort to overthrow the Cuban Revolution and its political project.

The sanctioned sectors belong to the electronics, manufacturing, maritime and technology areas of the Cuban economy.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control, under the Treasury, also notified changes to the List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons, to which several individuals and entities were added.

Among the latter are Cuban state firms providing technical and technological services, import and export of electronic and communications products, maritime freight transport and activities associated with the oil and maritime sector.

Vessels flying the Cuban flag were added to the aforementioned List, and records of ships and shipping companies were modified.

The extraterritorial tentacles of the sanctions reached the Chinese companies China National Electronic Import and Export Company and Beijing H&C Technologies Co., Ltd.

In addition to the Executive Orders of January 29 and May 1, 2026, the US administration has imposed dozens of sanction packages on Cuba in recent months against individuals and entities in strategic sectors of the national economy.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio justified the new punitive measures with the customary claim that the provisions are not against the Cuban people but against their elites.

Last October 28 at the UN General Assembly, Rodríguez called for the lifting of the blockade and obtained the majority support of the international community.
